What makes a great marketing strategy?
🙋🏻♀️ Have you ever been to the supermarket before when you are hungry and don’t have a list?
Did you come out with a basket full of food but nothing to eat for dinner?
This is like creating a marketing activity plan without first building the strategy.
You buy lots of things you like but they don’t create anything useful.
Spending time on your marketing strategy first is essential if you want to build an activity plan which delivers on your business objectives.
Jumping to the tactics first is an easy trap to fall into. But first, you need to spend time covering the key components of strategy.
This time invested upfront will pay off massively when you then start executing a plan which effectively reaches your target audience.
The key pillars I work on with my clients covers:
1. Market research - understand your competitive market and delve into your customers' needs and what they value. Then look at your business and audit what has been done, what has worked well and what hasn’t.
2. Be specific about who you are targeting - segment your audiences and build a useful persona on them. You want this stage to help you identify the right way to target them and talk to them so that they want to engage with you
3. Why You? – what is it about your product or service that sets you apart? Why would customers choose you? Be clear on the value you deliver for them.
4. Finally what are your goals and how will you measure success? This is not always easy and you certainly wont always achieve them but it’s a key step to understanding what's working, where you need to adjust activity or stop certain tactics.
Once you have covered these 4 key elements, building the marketing plan and the relevant content to support it will be a clearer and easier.
